Inspiring fundraiser nominated for award

A DEDICATED Bridgwater charity worker is closer to getting her paws on a national award after being nominated for Britain's Most Inspiring Fundraiser.

Sheila Pratt started working for The Labrador Rescue Trust 11 years ago, after her application for a dog moved her to want to help.

Her outstanding dedication and passion in fundraising as a member of the board of trustees has earned her a nomination for the everyclick.com award, and a chance to win £20,000 in prize money, which would help fund a new project for the charity.

Sheila said: "I am very, very pleased, it's a great honour and anything that can highlight the problem will help.

"It's our 20th anniversary and we have just set up a special fund so that we can ensure that all dogs are neutered and microchipped. The money will help the voucher scheme for new owners."

Sheila was nominated by colleague Pat Malim, who described how her commitment has helped so many animals.

Pat said: "Sheila has the ability to promote fundraising more than anyone I have ever met. She sees abilities in others and gets the best out of everyone.

"Not only does she look after all dogs coming into rescue, she also looks after their re-homing and co-ordinates her band of very willing volunteers who home check every potential new owner and assess every dog coming into rescue.

"Sheila has the largest volunteer group within the trust, as she is able to motivate and enthuse so many people with her infectious support and zest for doing her utmost.

"She encourages so many people to help the trust and she is a truly inspirational leader to all involved with animal rescue."

The everyclick.com award is given in memory of renowned fundraiser Jane Tomlinson, who raised more than £1.75 million for cancer charities through a serious of gruelling physical challenges, while battling breast cancer.

The winner will be announced on Wednesday, June 11.
