BRIDGWATER Town's co-manager Craig Laird was convinced that his team would win 4-3 as he walked to the dressing room with them 3-0 down at half time against Burnham on Saturday.
"We had defended poorly, but attacked well and I knew we would get back into it," he said. "Burnham were the worst team we have played this season when we drew 1-1 up there and they were no better on Saturday. We just gave them a three-goal lead."
He went on: "The third goal just before half time killed us, but we should have been three goals up ourselves and we also missed enough chances to have won the game in the second half."
Laird added: "The best tactical decision I made was to get Jack Dray, son of our reserves' manager, to collect the ball behind the Burnham goal and return it quickly. They were very keen to waste time and Jack made sure that they didn't."
Having dropped two points, Town continue to chase their managers' target of 70 on Saturday with another home game (3pm) against third-from-bottom Slough.
Ryan King, leading scorer for the last two seasons, could soon be back in first-team contention. He had a good game for the reserves on Saturday and Laird commented: "We'll have to see how he feels and how the reserve-team manager thinks he's progressing."
TOWN Reserves have a home game against Taunton Blackbrook on Tuesday (7.45pm), then visit Ilminster on Saturday (3pm).
