REDRUTH police have arrested a man after a spate of graffiti which has been daubed across the town.
On Thursday (Jan 10) the Redruth Neighbourhood Team executed a warrant issued under the Criminal Damage Act to search an address in the town.
A man was arrested and has been releases on police bail pending further enquiries.
The anti-social problem of graffiti has been highlighted by county councillor Graeme Hicks who launched a campaign several months ago to try and stamp out this kind of crime.
PC Tim Roberts, who co-ordinated the police action, said: "We want to send out the clear message that any form of unauthorised graffiti is a crime for which you can be arrested. In Redruth this type of an anti-social act undermines all the good work being carried out to try and improve the town. It is a priority for us to reduce all forms of damage in the area and I encourage any person with information regarding the identity of culprits to come forward."
Councillor Graeme Hicks added: "We have been working hard to stop this growth in graffiti around the town. On this occasion I've got to praise the police for catching one of the individuals concerned.
"I am hopeful that the particular individual will be made to clean up some of the mess and I hope it will be a humiliating experience. I hope other graffiti artists will take notice.
"It lowers the tone of the area and leaves people fearful of crime. It is a big nuisance and we want to stamp it out."
