From the Chard & Ilminster News, first published Tuesday 15th Jan 2008.
THE historic Green Dragon Inn at Combe St Nicholas is the only pub in the Chard and Ilminster area to have been included in the 2008 Good Beer Guide.
The Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) produces the guide each year, and it is now widely regarded as the beer drinkers' oracle on the best places in the country to enjoy a pint or two.
Green Dragon landlady Helen Salway Roberts said she was delighted that the pub, which is believed to have served the people of Combe St Nicholas for 400 years, had made it into the pages of what is regarded as the UK's real ale bible.
"It's a privilege to be the only local pub in Britain's number one beer and pubs guide, and it says a lot about the quality of our beer," she said.
"You can't pay to beincluded - we're there simply because beer drinkers say our beer is among the best in the area."
The Green Dragon mainly serves West Country beers, and staff at the pub doeverything they can to ensure that the ales are kept at the ideal temperature and served at their best.
