PAMPERED pooches were out in force for a record number of entries at the Ferne Animal Sanctuary Dog Show.
This year's show was held on September 2 at the sanctuary near Chard with 86 dogs of all shapes and sizes from a 50-mile radius taking part.
Winner of the best in show was Cleo - a whippet owned by Cathy Smith from Dorchester.
Carol Hillman of Exmouth won best rescue dog with Jezz, a Saluki cross and Kimberly McEvansoneya of Beercrowcombe was named Best Child Handler with Shetland sheepdog, Pippin.
Judging the novelty and pedigree classes was Jane Scuffle from All Saints with Carol Kemp of Merriott judging the obedience class.
Classes were sponsored by A.E.S Building Services, Alro Services Ltd; C.I.D Alarms; Chard Welding Co; Citywall Financial Management; Coombefield Veterinary Hospital; Golden Hill; E.J Grabham Electrical Contractors ; Hartshill Kennels and The Ultimate Pudding Co.
Some of the participants took the opportunity to explore the Sanctuary's tranquil surroundings as well as to see the wide range of resident animals and to enjoy the tea room.
Some of the resident dogs joined in the classes and met visitors and it is hoped that new homes will be found for all of them before long.
