Determined win for Mawnan

THE ladies of Mawnan played host to Mylor "B" on a beautiful sunny afternoon and went into an early nine shot lead.

Mylor fought back to almost level the score, but Mawnan were determined and won the match by 10 shots.

Mawnan (1, H Wilks, 2, E Compson 3, L Storey, Skip P Dearnley) 28 Mylor "B" (1, J Park, 2, M Calthorpe, 3, J Brokenshire, Skip P Loud) 18 Mawnan Strollers played at home to Carnon on a pleasant Friday afternoon and Jeanette Edward's rink went straight into the lead from the first end.

On the tenth end the score was 8-6 to Mawnan and from then on Carnon did not win another end and lost by 25 shots.

David Beattie's rink made a slow start to be three to five down after seven ends, but scored a four in the next end giving them the lead, which they maintained to win their rink by 13 shots.

Alf Waddingham's rink also had a slow start being five shots down after eight ends but a 1-1-2-1 over the next four ends brought them level.

Carnon fought back and the scores were 8-8 after 12 ends, 9-9 after 14 ends and 11-11 after 16 ends. Alf looked to be heading for a draw but managed a one shot win giving Mawnan all five points. Mawnan 64 Carnon 25 Mawnan ladies Rippon team were also at home to the ladies from West End, but after a close match went down by 5 shots. Mawnan 14 West End 19 Mawnan had a tough match on the heavier greens at Constantine on Saturday in the Millennium mixed fours competition. The most successful rink was skipped by Keith Penrose against Steve O'Donoghue.

Keith's rink were 11-4 down after nine ends but fought back well, to win 16-14. Phil Dunstone's rink found skip Rex Weller in fine form using his No. 7 woods to great advantage, coming in for shot, or trailing the jack (for a count of six on the third end).

After 20 ends Mawnan recovered to be one shot ahead but went down three on the last end. Judy Ramsay's rink were ahead at the 12th but a 3-4-3 by Constantine's skip, Jenny Hosking put them seven shots up, from which Mawnan never recovered.
