Camel centre set to host charity dance

From the Falmouth Packet, first published Friday 8th Jun 2007.

The camel dance is set to take on a whole new meaning at the end of this month when the Cornish Camels Centre on the Lizard Peninsula holds a grand charity ball.

Based at organic Rosuick Farm near Goonhilly, the centre is throwing open its doors for the event in aid of Helston-based charity ShelterBox and national charity CLIC Sargent.

Guests are invited to interpret the theme of "Overdressed" using their own imagination, which could lead to outfits as diverse as a wedding dress and veil to someone wearing three layers of each item of clothing.

Stuart Oates, who is responsible for the camels, laughed: "It's probably the only time you'll be dancing at a ball ten metres away from camel!"

The evening, which takes place on Saturday, June 30, between 7.30pm and 2am, will feature live music from local blues band Blues Connection, followed by a DJ.

In addition, tickets, which cost £22.50, will include a fancy buffet made using mostly organic produce - most of which comes from Rosuick's organic farm shop - and free camping facilities. There will also be a licensed bar.

Tickets should be bought in advance by calling 01326 231302 or 01326 231119.
