Record bid for walking bus

From the Falmouth Packet, first published Sunday 24th Jun 2007.

Pupils from Garras School were hoping to make it into the record books when they took part in a nation-wide bid to improve road safety.

Garras was one of more than 500 schools around the UK supporting the "Walking Bus" initiative organised by road safety charity Brake.

The initiative saw more than 80,000 schoolchildren putting their best foot forward at exactly the same time last Wednesday in an attempt to achieve a new Guinness world record.

More importantly, Brake was keen to highlight the need for compulsory road safety education in schools, as well as mandatory 20mph zones around schools.

The Garras pupils, who did their bit by striding out around Mawgan recreation field, are keen supporters of the "walking bus" initiative.
