THE Blue Cross animal charity, which cares for unwanted pets in Devon and across the UK, today announced that it has been chosen as the 2008 Charity of the Year at one of the world's most famous equestrian events, the Mitsubishi Motors Badminton Horse Trials.
Kerstin Alford, director of equine welfare at The Blue Cross, said: "The Blue Cross is honoured to be chosen as Charity of the Year at such a prestigious event. It is an exciting opportunity to tell people about our work rehabilitating and rehoming unwanted animals across the country. It will also help us to reach a wide range of current and future pet and horse owners with advice on animal welfare, which is at the heart of everything we do."
The Blue Cross is now seeking volunteers to help its fundraising efforts at Badminton, getting involved with activities such as selling raffle tickets and collecting donations. Applicants must be over 18 and can volunteer for one or more days of the event, from 1 to 4 May 2008. In return they will receive entry into the show and a chance to help needy animals nationwide.
