PEOPLE in Ilton had the chance to find out more about plans to build 42 new homes in the village in a consultation event this week.
South Somerset Homes held the public consultation event at Ilton Village Hall on Wednesday (November 14) to tell the community about its plans and listen to people's views.
The proposed scheme will see 16 Woolaway houses and a garage site demolished to make way for 42 new homes.
The new homes will be a mixture of one and two bedroom flats, two and three bedroom houses and one bungalow with 12 of the new dwellings being offered for shared ownership.
The mixture of tenure has been chosen to reflect the housing need and to provide a well-balanced community.
The scheme will also include a new landscape design.
South Somerset Homes has recently submitted a new planning application, which if successful, and funding is granted by the Housing Corporation, will begin in spring 2008 and be completed by summer 2009.
All existing and prospective residents and neighbours were invited to call in and see the new plans.
A spokesperson for South Somerset Homes said: "Lots of different views were expressed - some directly to staff from South Somerset Homes; and others directly to the Planning Officer.
"All of the written feedback we received been copied to the planning officer and the chair of the parish council.
"We are considering how we can incorporate the ideas/suggestions into the scheme design."
