Redruth singers complete tour of Scotland

From the Falmouth Packet, first published Sunday 11th Nov 2007.

THE Redruth Amateur Operatic Society Trust Singers have completed a mini tour of Fife, Scotland.

This was the singers first ever tour away and was organised by Neil Cameron, a Scotsman, and Kirsty Rawcliffe.

Talking about the trip, Neil said: "The pressure was on and I had every stage of the tour on my mind, the flights, the coaches, the venues, everything. However it has been well worth it because it was my home turf."

The singers performed songs from shows and musicals in two venues at Cupar and at Kirkcaldy where they were joined by East Fife Male Voice Choir. Both venues ended in standing ovations.

Following the first venue, the Cupar Rotary Club invited the choir to a Ceilidh, where the choir chairman Mr Adam Nicholls donned a Cornish tartan kilt.

Alastiar Taylor, musical director, said: "The 44 choir members were accompanied by the chairman of the Society Mr Clive Triolaire, their president Mrs Esther Brokenshire and the all important tea ladies. However due to work and family commitments, there were a lot of members unable to attend."

With every member at rehearsal the choir can top 65. Following his performance at the Cupar concert Alastair's reputation preceded him, when at Kirkaldy he was put on the spot and asked to play a selection from Gershwin, which he did without the music score.

The RAOST Singers are part of Redruth Amateur Operatic Society Trust established since 1908 and have entertained people for years on the stage.

They warmly invite you to their Evening of Song and Dance which is to be staged at the Regal Theatre, Redruth at the end of November. Tickets are available from the Regal Theatre Box Office 01209216278 and at the new Bar and Restaurant next door.
