Looking good for Cornish boatbuilder

The future is looking extremely buoyant for a leading Cornish boat manufacturer after an overwhelming response from visitors to its stand at the internationally renowned Southampton Boat Show.

Redruth-based Powercat Limited believes business will be extremely healthy as a result of unprecedented interest in its range of award-winning powered catamarans.

In addition to its increasingly popular Powercat 525 range, which visitors were able to experience first hand by taking boat tests at the show, the company used Southampton to pre-launch a completely new boat - a stunning 6.95 metre Powercat.

According to Powercat Sales and Marketing Director Jay Pengelly, interest in the new boat was extremely high.

"Southampton is one of the key shows in the boating world calendar and we were absolutely delighted with the overwhelmingly positive response from visitors - both to our existing 525 range and the new 695 Powercat.

"Launching the new boat is a massive step for the company, but the level of interest confirmed our belief that the new Powercat will prove extremely popular," said Jay.

"We plan to build five 695's in 2008 and are confident that, on the back of the interest generated at Southampton, the last few build slots will be taken up very quickly," he added.

Since it was launched 10 years ago, Powercat has become the UK's leading powered catamaran manufacturer. Interest in the Isles of Scilly derived twin hulled boat has never been higher with record orders now in place.

"Our 525 boats are now firmly regarded as the leading powered catamarans in the UK and are indeed the only powered catamarans designed and manufactured specifically to operate in UK and European waters. We are seeing ever increasing levels of interest in our boats as the twin hull design becomes more accepted," said Jay.
