WENDRON 1 ILLOGAN 4
ILLOGAN scored four times in the second half to deservedly claim all three points from their Jolly's Combination League clash at Wendron.
This was a game Illogan should have won by a far wider margin, but eventually they had a Gareth Pitt hat-trick to thank for their victory.
The home side shook the champions with a goal inside 30 seconds when a quick free kick by Ed Timmins caught the visitors napping. He found David Toy who crossed to the far post for Tony Harris to head past Danny Burrows.
Wendron belied their lowly position with some good football and it took some time for Illogan to make their mark in the game.
Craig Williams went close to equalising in the 21st minute with a terrific 25-yard shot as the visitors began to start making good chances.
A clever chip from Gareth Pitt skimmed the top of the bar and Gary Sturmey and Stuart Peters both saw good efforts flash just wide of the upright.
As the half ended it was a catalogue of missed chances for the visitors, but six minutes into the second period Illogan equalised when Pitt picked up a pass from Rob Bray and swivelled to lose his marker and beat the 'keeper with a good finish.
Eight minutes later Illogan were in front when Pitt ran on to a through ball by Stuart Peters and made no mistake from the edge of the box.
Illogan extended their lead when Musa Sabo headed Peters' free kick back across the face of goal for Williams to volley home.
The game was put out of reach of Wendron seven minutes from time when Pitt picked up Sturmey's pass and beat a defender before firing his shot across the goalkeeper into the corner of the net.
Illogan: D Burrows, A Clark, M Sabo, M Pascoe, M Miller, J Kemp, R Bray, C Williams, G Sturmey, G Pitt, S Peters. Subs: S Ellis, S Fenton.
