Premier Trophy: Somerset Mike Manning Audio Rebels 62, Isle of Wight Islanders 31
THE Rebels completely demolished a poor Isle of Wight side at Highbridge on Friday night. The Islanders had Chris Holder and Krzysztof Stojanowski to thank for the majority of their points.Holder, the Australian U-21 champion, looks a star of the future and fully deserved the 14 points he earned on his first-ever visit to the Oak Tree Arena.
The visitors won only three races and their reserves scored just two points between them, with ex-Rebel Nick Simmons drawing a blank. By contrast, Somerset's reserves Simon Walker and Ben Barker were outstanding, with paid 11 and paid ten respectively.
Scores: Somerset 62 (M Zetterstrom 5r 14+1, G Phillips 4r 6+1, S Katt 4r 10, P Fry 4r 4+2, G Cunningham 5r 11+1, S Walker 4r 8+3, B Barker 4r 9+1), Isle of Wight 31 (C Holder 5r 14, J Doyle 4r 2+1, K Marsh 5r 3, K Stojanowski 5r 8, R Kasprzak 4r 2, C Johnson 4r 2, N Simmons 2r 0).
Over the Easter weekend, the Rebels have a crowd-pulling Premier-Trophy double header derby against Newport Wasps, with the home match on Friday (7.30pm) and the return at Newport on Sunday (2.30).
