From the Somerset County Gazette, first published Thursday 6th Apr 2006.
AFTER conquering the Taunton half marathon last Sunday, following an entire week without any red wine, we are all pleased to be back to our old selves (writes HELEN ROSSITER).
Battling with a conflicting relationship between exercise and partying, both of which we love, Jean, Claire and I will be looking forward to catching some of the live music this week.
And what a better way to start than with a cracking night at Aura tonight (Thursday) from Weekender, which is always highly recommended.
As previewed last week, new prog-rock band Pure Reason Revolution headline the night, supported by Bristol-based The Fondas and Contract.
After a two-year absence from Taunton, Soulfonic will be taking a break tomorrow night (Friday) from their slot in Bristol to grace the decks at the Moat House.
They will be mixing up some soulful house tunes with smooth grooves and chilled out beats.
DJs include Adam James Poole and Lee Groves.
Also on Friday night at Aura will be Housework's "The Easter Ball".
If dance isn't your thing, head down to Rockers Live for Cat in The Hat, who are just back from the South West Festival in Austin, Texas.
On Saturday night The Man from Funkle will be at The Westgate and Small Mercies at The White Hart.
Rock/blues/pop band The Graduates will be playing at The Vintage in Wellington.
And onto next week Monday: Power-pop punkers Less Than Jake at The Carling Academy in Bristol Wednesday: Seth Lakeman plays at The Palace in Bridgwater.
Also look out for tribute band Ultimate Madness at Shout in East Street on Wednesday. The group are described as the most energetic and authentic tribute group around to the Madness sound, covering all of their greatest hits and other great Ska bands such as The Specials and Bad Manners. Shout is open from 8pm, with free entry before 10.30pm.
During April, Shout will be bringing to the stage other great bands including Guns 2 Roses and Fake That! For details call 01823-254903 or visit www.clubshout.co.uk/taunton Thursday (April 13): The alternative DJ night My Favourite Noise returns to Aura.
