Volunteers Set To Rescue Arts Centre

From the archive, first published Wednesday 11th Feb 2004.

IT'S a case of so far, so good, for the bid to save Bridgwater Arts Centre from being closed and moved to Burnham.

District Council leaders wanted to sell off the building and shoe-horn the operation into Burnham's Princess Hall, abandoning the good work that has seen the centre's footfall more than treble in just three years.

They claimed it would cost £150,000 to make the building safe and accessible for anothr two years while Bridgwater Town Hall is turned into a new home for Sedgemoor's arts scene - but the centre now looks likely to stay in Castle Street, provided it wins support from members.
